DES MOINES, Iowa (Oct. 30, 2007) — The Iowa Energy today announced it has signed Iowa high school and college basketball standout Jeff Horner.
Horner, a six-foot , three-inch point guard, played his first year of professional basketball in Europe for the Euphony Bree. A four-year starter for the Iowa Hawkeyes, he finished his career as Iowa’s all-time assist leader. In addition, Horner holds the school record for most three-point field goals made. He racked up 1,502 points, making him the all-time 11th highest scorer in school history.
“Jeff used his time in Europe to improve his skills and technique and will be a signature player for our team,” said Nick Nurse, head coach of the Energy. “Fans are excited to see him play and this is great opportunity for Jeff to be seen by the NBA.”
The Energy season starts with a road game versus the Dakota Wizards on Friday, November 23. Iowa debuts for its hometown fans on Monday, November 26, at Wells Fargo Arena. The Energy is set to face the Albuquerque Thunderbirds, the 2005-2006 NBA Development League champions.
