Win Over Lakers a "Fields Day" for Knicks
In just his second game in a Knicks uniform, Landry Fields showed everyone why the Knicks selected him with one of their second round picks last month.
“He’s made our scouts look good,” laughed assistant coach Dan D’Antoni, who is serving as the team’s Summer League head coach. “He is playing really well so far. You’ve got to be happy with our scouts and organization picking him up where we did because he has shown so far that he’s been a good find.”
Fields scored 17 points in leading New York to a 71-63 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers. He also chipped in five boards, three steals and two blocks as the Knicks improved their record to 1-1.
“It was a lot better today,” the athletic wing said after the game. “I am starting to feel a little bit more comfortable in the system, and it slowed down today too, compared to yesterday. So it felt good.”
Fields had help in the win, as Toney Douglas continued to shine. The tenacious combo guard filled up the stat sheet with six points, five boards, seven assists and five steals. Jerome Jordan finished with eight points, four boards, one assist and two blocks while Bill Walker contributed 14 points.
Knicks fans in attendance took note as Patrick Ewing Jr. made his Summer League debut after sitting out Sunday’s loss to the Nuggets. In just under 21 minutes off the bench, Ewing made his mark on the game by finishing with eight points, five boards, two assists and four impressive blocks.
New York looks to make it two in a row when they return to the court Wednesday vs. the Toronto Raptors. The game tips off at 6:00pm EST and can be seen on MSG.
