Ready for Launch

Rockets launch newly designed Rockets.com

Jason Friedman
Rockets.com Staff Writer

Houston - I started writing for Rockets.com 16 months ago. But, in many ways, it feels as if I began just yesterday. I still get excited to come into work every day. I still feel as if I’ve got the best job in the world. And I still feel spoiled beyond belief to have the opportunity to chat with and learn from all the people who make the Rockets’ organization second to none.

Another thing that hasn’t changed: My lofty goals for this team’s website. During my introductory column last July, I stated my desire “To make Rockets.com the premier place for fans to find information about their team they can’t find anywhere else and to establish this site as the NBA’s standard bearer for quality, cutting edge content.”

Today, with the launch of our completely redesigned website, I’m proud to say we’ve taken a massive step forward on the path toward making that vision a reality. Right off the bat, you’ll notice a cleaner, less cluttered look; one which is not only easier on the eye but far more conducive to a better online experience, making navigation a breeze and inviting users to explore the vast amount of content we aspire to provide every day.

A word about that content: Regular visitors to Rockets.com have probably already noticed the emphasis we’ve placed on increasing our video content over the past six months and we’ll only be adding to that momentum with the launch of our new site. Users will soon have their hands full with a smorgasbord of player interviews and features generated by our first-class production team and you’ll be able to access those with ease from our video tab on the homepage.

Also of note: Rockets.com has been at the forefront of the social networking phenomenon with its use of sites like Twitter and Facebook, making it only logical to include a tab for that as well. So whether you’re looking for up-to-the-second team news, ticket deals, special events or simply the latest insightful tweet from General Manager Daryl Morey, Rockets.com has made it easier than ever to keep track of your favorite club.

Those are simply a few of the new things we hope you’ll take advantage of while perusing our new digs. And just so you know: more bells and whistles are on the way. Be on the lookout for live Gamecasts during Rockets’ contests in the near future as well. What you see now is only the beginning.

So take a look around and let us know what you think. You’re looking at the culmination of more than six months of work from our development and design team and I personally could not be prouder of both the end result and the group responsible for its creation. People like Paul Suarez, Tavares Davis, John Dabkowski and a host of other personnel with both the Rockets and NBA have poured their hearts and souls into this project and I am forever indebted to them for providing me with a brand new canvas on which I can create.

We’re one step closer to our goal. I can’t wait to see where the path leads us from here.
